M7 Business Schools AEO Index
Arcalea tracked 25 M7 entities across 200 structured AI queries on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot. Each school is scored on five metrics: Entity Mention Frequency, AI Share of Voice, Position Power, Platform Consistency, and Recommendation Rate. This index reveals which institutions win the AI visibility race and which are invisible to the models their prospects use every day.

AI Visibility Is the New Search Ranking
When a prospective MBA student asks ChatGPT "which business school has the strongest finance program," the answer they receive is not a list of links. It is a synthesized recommendation, generated from patterns in the model's training data and real-time retrieval. If your institution is not prominently surfaced in that response, you are invisible to one of the fastest-growing discovery channels in higher education.
The M7 AEO Index is Arcalea's benchmark study of how the seven most prestigious business schools in the United States perform across the four dominant AI answer engines. The methodology is built on Compass, Arcalea's proprietary competitive intelligence and entity tracking platform, which has been applied to higher education to measure AI presence with the same rigor used in enterprise marketing engagements.
Data-driven. Platform-specific. Updated as AI platforms evolve. This is the definitive measure of AI presence for M7 institutions in 2026.
How M7 schools compare across five dimensions
Five Dimensions of AI Visibility
Every entity in the index is evaluated across five independent dimensions. The composite AEO Score is a weighted average that reflects both how often a school appears and how favorably it is positioned when it does.
How often the institution is mentioned across all query responses, normalized by total queries issued per platform.
The percentage of total M7 mentions captured by each school, equivalent to share of voice in traditional media analysis.
Where the institution appears within each response. First-position mentions receive a higher weight than incidental mentions lower in the answer.
Whether the school performs equally across all five platforms or is strong on one engine but absent from others. Consistent presence signals entity authority.
The rate at which an AI platform actively recommends the institution in response to decision-oriented queries such as "which school should I attend for finance?"

Built on Compass
The M7 AEO Index is powered by Compass, Arcalea's competitive intelligence and entity tracking platform. Compass monitors how brands, institutions, and entities are represented across AI answer engines in real time, tracking mention frequency, position, sentiment, and recommendation patterns at scale. The M7 index applies this infrastructure specifically to higher education, measuring each school the same way Arcalea measures enterprise clients across financial services, healthcare, and consumer sectors.
Queries were structured to reflect real decision-stage intent, covering program reputation, career outcomes, admissions competitiveness, and specific specialization strength. Each query was issued to all five platforms under identical conditions and scored independently before composite aggregation.
Query Design
200 structured queries written to reflect real MBA prospect and employer behavior across decision, consideration, and awareness stages.
Entity Identification
25 M7 entities defined across institutional brands, program names, and common colloquial references used in natural-language queries
Cross-Platform Measurement
Each query issued to ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, and Copilot under controlled conditions. Responses coded for entity presence, position, and recommendation intent.
Composite Scoring
Five-dimension weighted scoring produces a single AEO Score per entity per platform, then aggregated to a cross-platform composite for final rankings.
